Links Between Obesity and Asthma

Obesity is a serious condition that is typically characterized by a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above. BMI is a measurement chart that provides a comparison of height weight in order to determine whether you are obese, overweight or have normal weight. Obesity can have extremely negative repercussions on your overall health, affect your quality of life and is one of the biggest causes of preventable death worldwide. Asthma is a chronic disease that narrows and inflames the airways in the lungs. An asthmatic individual often experiences recurrent wheezing, tightness in the chest, coughing and shortness of breath.

Link between obesity and asthma
Now, new research has confirmed what doctors have long suspected – there are strong links between these two conditions. It has been discovered that higher the BMI, greater your risk of having asthma. In fact, your risk of suffering from asthma will be more than tripled if you also suffer from obesity. But the reasons for this have not yet been identified. Some researchers suggest that obesity causes a low grade system wide inflammation which might be a major factor in causing asthma. But others argue that obesity leads to insulin resistance and is therefore responsible for causing and aggravating asthma.

Control your obesity
Obesity also enhances the risk of a number of health conditions such as type-2 diabetes, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis as well as some kinds of cancer. That is why it is essential to control obesity with the help of weight loss treatments that include essential lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet and regular physical activity. These can be incorporated as a part of a holistic fitness program. Some cases of obesity need to be treated with prescription weight loss medications. This will help you keep obesity linked health conditions under control and reduce the severity of their symptoms.

Growing Obesity Amongst Teens

According to the latest research, teenage obesity is increasing at an unmatched pace worldwide. The rate at which obesity is rising has jolted the medical fraternity into action. Now that around 15% of the children below the age of 15 are obese, doctors have taken this as a wake up call that requires speedy and timely action.

Causes of teenage obesity
Various factors cause obesity; however, the main factors that contribute to obesity are overeating, lack of physical activity and excessive TV viewing. If you eat and drink more than your body needs, the excess fat is stored in your body. Lack of physical activity only adds to the problem. Most television studies have shown that children, who have televisions in their bedrooms, have a tendency to eat more. This leads to lack of physical activity and worsens the problem.

How to avoid/treat teenage obesity
The best method of treating or preventing obesity is to reverse the causes of obesity. Teenagers should eat a healthy diet and avoid eating junk foods, which is easily available these days. They should exercise regularly and stay active throughout the day. Teens should get involved in more activities that would help them maintain their fitness levels as well as burn the stored fat on a regular basis. Most importantly, they should avoid watching TV for longer durations and snacking in between meals.

How can teenage obesity be treated?
Most children inculcate unhealthy lifestyle habits from their parents. This is why parents have an important role to play in the lives of their children. They should guide their children towards healthy lifestyle choices. Several studies have revealed that a balanced diet ranks low on the glycemic index. This means that it is helpful in reducing teenage obesity. Parents should guide their children towards healthy diets and regular exercise for adequate weight loss. Moreover, it’s obligatory for parents to explain to their children, the risks and problems associated with obesity and the benefits of losing weight. If this is not possible, parents can seek medical treatment where the doctor is most likely to prescribe Xenical. This treatment can help children live a healthy and happy life.

Primarily, there are two prescription-only weight loss pills that are popular and available on the market. The names of these pills are Reductil and Xenical. Both these pills are available online and you can buy them from the website of any licensed source or online pharmacy.

Reductil
Reductil is an appetite suppressant but differs from other traditional suppressants. It works in the brain by altering the levels of two chemicals known as serotonin and noradrenaline. As a direct consequence, you will feel full by eating less food unlike before when you eat more food to curb your hunger. During the treatment process, you are likely to lose considerable amount of weight.

Some of the common side effects of Reductil are dry mouth, headache, hot flushes, constipation, nausea, inability to sleep, dizziness, sweating, anxiety, and changes in taste sensations. In some rare cases, people may also suffer from fits, convulsions and seizures.

Xenical
On the other hand, Xenical is a fat inhibitor that works in the digestive system. It targets the dietary fats and blocks about one-third of them from getting absorbed. As a result, there is less accumulation of fats in your body and you don’t gain extra weight. Xenical works only in the presence of dietary fats, so you should avoid its dosage when your diet meal contains less or no fat.

Some of the common side effects of Xenical slimming pills are abdominal pain, increased flatulence, oily stools, and oily discharge from the anus. In some rare cases, Xenical can cause nausea, dyspepsia, headache and unusual tiredness.

Both Reductil and Xenical can cause some undesirable side effects. Before taking any of these pills for weight loss treatment, you should try to learn about their important information including side effects and contraindications. These weight loss pills may not be suitable for everyone. To check your suitability for each of these pills, you need to consult a medical doctor or your GP who can issue a prescription after your thorough check up. Some websites are also licensed to sell these prescription-only drugs by conducting a prior online consultation.

Both these prescription pills have their benefits as well as side effects. It’s up to the doctor with whom you do a consultation to prescribe you the right pill for weight loss treatment. Globesity – Because Obesity has become a Global Phenomenon

Filed under: About weight loss — Tags: , — admin @ 11:03 am

The curse of obesity is no longer restricted to the economically advanced developed nations but is constantly on the rise in the developing countries as well – though its prevalence is higher in the high income urban areas as compared to the economically weaker rural areas.

The alarming rate at which obesity is growing around the world has made researchers coin a new word ‘Globesity’. This word aptly describes the rising rate of overweight and obese people around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) carried out a study on obesity as a global phenomenon and released startling results. It predicts that by 2015, there will be 2.3 billion overweight adults in the world and more than 700 million of them will be clinically obese. In terms of Body Mass Index (BMI), people with a BMI of 25-30 are considered overweight while those with a BMI over 30 are called obese. Those with a BMI above 40 are considered morbidly obese.

Another fact about obesity that is disturbing researchers is the rate at which obesity is growing among children. A study conducted by WHO stated that in 2005, at least 20 million children under the age of 5 years were overweight. The figures are indeed very disturbing because obesity is not just a cosmetic issue. It is a major cause of life threatening heart diseases, Type II diabetes and various types of cancers.

A major cause of the growing rate of obesity around the world is the shift towards improper eating habits. While a number of lifestyle factors contribute towards obesity but most researchers say that at the bottom of it all is the unhealthy food habit. People nowadays lead a busy lifestyle where they find little time to cook meals and tend to chow down on high calorie junk food. Other major cause of obesity is sedentary lifestyle. People do very little physical activity and therefore the calories are not burnt leading to excessive weight.
